The past year

OK an update on new rules we are playing and new toys I have. Pics to follow.
War of the Roses 28mm,  rebased my Impetus collection to 40x40mm and got some more toys and painted them all, would like to add some Kerns and Bretons but don't like to minis on offer for Kerns, going to convert the Perry Italian light infantry pack into Bretons, started playing A Coat of Steel great fun.
Dux Britaniarum 28mm, rebased a lot of toys for this Romano Brits, Saxon and Scots, got Warbases to make special movement trays, ran a demo at Edinburgh Museum using the Viking rules, ran a campaign but lost to the Saxon player. Great fun.
Pike and Shotte 28mm, tried these with some  Landsknechts and Italian infantry I got years ago for Impetus, finally painted them up still got the cavalry and foot xbows to finish but think I will stick to Impetus for this period.
Muskets and Tomahawks 15mm, started this in 28mm but my group wanted to do it in 15mm so sold my 28's and reinvested in the Blue Moon 15's. Scratch built some houses and just about finished the toys. Great fun.
Otterburn 28mm, got toys for this and finished painting them just a few bases to finish, helps having Saxondog as a mate, playtested some rules but they are still a WIP.
By Fire and Sword 15mm, a couple of chaps at the club got the rules at Salute and got cajoled into getting some toys, Cossacks for me but the minis are not my cup of tea so I got mine from Grumpy Miniatues sold by ERM.
ACW Fire and Fury 10mm, Still got my 28mm stuff but again got talked into doing it in 10mm. Pendraken this time. Finished a few Brigades so far but a lot more to do, 3rd and 5th Corps for Gettysburg and some Confederates.
Chain of Command affectionately known as CoC 15mm, playtesting for Twofatlardies these are brilliant fun.

Return of the Blog

It's been over a year since I last posted. Not really felt like posting during that time. Well that is what work, cancer and subsequent kidney removal, attendant infections, severe sciatica and a busted camera does.
I have been painting a bit and gaming some fantastic new sets of rules during my blog absence tho.
Anyway the last post was about getting some toys for PzGrenadier. That went well, I got all the infantry and painted up my Germans and never finished their bases. The Polish paras never even saw a knife to clean them up. A couple of months back along comes the chance to get involved in the playtest of a new skirmish WW11 set by Twofatlardies. The set is called "Chain of Command" and boy are a few of us at SESWC having fun with them. We even ran a demo of the v4 set at a recent show "Wappinshaw" in the Weege, 5 games and a patrol set up in a day. So some of the Germans were ripped off their unfinished bases and rebased for CoC. I did a PzGrenadier platoon as we did not have one. I will eventually finish off basing the rest and should have enough to do about 2 companies worth for Pz Grenadier.
My group decided to use magnetic coins for the bases with different sizes for leaders etc.
Basic infantry on 1 eurocent, Officers and Sgts on 2p and section leaders on 1p. Some of the teams are on 2p as well just as we thought it looked better in 15mm.
Would you believe it now that I have written this and taken pics I can't find the tool to upload them, bummer.
Well after 2 days of searching for a solution I discovered that if I reduce the screen size to 75% more icons appear in the toolbar and all if I reduce to 50%.
So now here are the pics for this post.

Mostly the new PeterPig range but a few Command Decision, I think.

An old period revived

WW11 has taken hold and I've got some 15mm kit now as well as the 10mm previously shown.
Again for Battlegroup PanzerGrenadier. There was a large bash last week at the club, with at least 3 newbies and quite a few novices including myself. So I had to get some of the kit I bought a couple of months ago painted up for another go. The infantry just got undercoated today but the vehicles have been ready to get painted up for a while. Why oh why did I sell off my 15mm colection a few years ago. Still the infantry I use are PeterPig and they have been redone and there are more kits now for vehicles.

Battlefront Stug left and a Plastic Soldier Company Stug right.

QRF 21st Panzer vehicles.
The full set of PSC Stugs. I think I did all the variants in the box and cut the side shields on a couple.

Also PSC 251 C and D with a PeterPig in the middle I added a PeterPig PAK40 to the one on the right because I did not want to wait for the conversion kit that PSC is bringing out.

I also got some PSC Shermans and will post pics next week.

Plastic Soldier Company vehicles are great value, easy to make and the detail is fabulous, my only complaint is that they are too true to scale when it comes to the LMG for the topside.

And now for something completely different

10mm yes a real departure for me. Always fancied doing some early WW11 but not British or German. My mate Derek was also looking for something new and fairly cheap. He already has loads of 15mm WW11 and after a few games of Panzer Grenadier I had invested in some Peter Pig Polish paras and Germans.  Also got some of the Plastic Soldier Shermans, 251's and Stugs. Sold all my Luftwaffe FD a couple of years ago. Silly me!!! Still PP has redone a lot of his packs and the new stuff is nice. After talking in the club one night I decided on Belgians and this is the result, minis are from Pithead Miniatures. Some cavalry units used Marmon Herringtons to tow their 76mm guns. Pithead don't make one but I got a couple extra of their MH armoured cars, shaved of some of the plates, left off the turret and added a roof.

I was looking at my collection and guess what, there are a lot more projects to be finished that I thought. Finishing off rebasing the Samnite/Italiot.
Painting the bases of my Repo Roman Allied force.
Start and finish 2 infantry and 1 cavalry regt for my Napoleonics.
Painting and basing about a dozen japanese civilians for my Samurai.
Getting on with the Bronze Age collections. Sea People, Myceneana, Libyan, Amazon and maybe some Egyptians.
I like to say that is all but there are also some Foundry Gladiators that I got when they first came out but there are still about 6 to do and getting Spartacus 1 and 2 for Christmas did inspire me a bit.
Then there are some AWI and some Macedonians that may get added to when Warlord release their plastic  set.

SAGA Scots cavalry

These are the finished minis that I converted using Conquest and GB plastics. The shields are LBMS transfers.

Projects finished so far

Well I have managed to finish off the Seven Years War minis that have been lying around for some time now.
First the Austrian Hussars Esterhazy. The horses are Perry plastic ACW converted and saddlecloths made from green stuff. The riders are again Perry but from the Napoleonic range very little done in the way of conversion only plumes removed from the rank and file.
To oppose them are some horse grenadiers of Von Kleists Friekorps. These are Foundry and to be honest the first Foundry minis I have bought for more years than I care to remember. I got them in the sale and with no postage or I would not have bothered.

I wanted some Libyan bronze age minis for a game we hope to put on. So ordering them together made it more cost effective. I'll probably get some of the Newline Libyans as well and will post pics later on.

New Year same projects

Hope everyone had a good time and Santa was good to them.
I'll be trying to finish off a few projects this year.
SYW, some hussars for my Austrians and some Von Kleist cavalry for my Prussians.
WW2, finish my 10mm Belgians.
Saga, must get these Conquest cavalry finished, I've put GB viking heads on them and shaved down the leggings for Scots.
